At the end of each year I like to take time to reflect on all the highs and lows, the great memories and the areas I want to improve upon. 2013 was an exciting year for my business. I made the big decision to transition from photography being my side job on top of my day job to photography being my sole income. The decision allowed me to be at home with our daughter and focus on family. My husband, Colin and I, also decided it was time to expand our trio and I became pregnant in the spring. Knowing how physically exhausting wedding photography can be I made a point of not biting off too much that could cause undue stress or health complications. I took on a total of 12 weddings and had great clients. It turned out to be a wise decision as this pregnancy turned out to be a lot more challenging than the first blissful time around.

2013 was also a year of learning. Both Colin and I have a love of life long learning and are always striving to improve ourselves. We work to be self aware, honest, and to understand ourselves, each other and our daughter so we can grow to our best potential. Additionally, I am always improving my photography education. I am constantly reading books, taking workshops and honing new skills and techniques. I am still learning the delicate work/life balance of running a business from home and being a mother. It was with this in mind that I decide to take on a limited number of weddings again this year. I want to be able to give my clients my full attention and the best customer service possible while at the same time making my family a priority.

I have so many exciting ideas for how to improve my business and services for 2014. I want to ensure that my clients and I are the right fit from the begining and have the same expectations. So for this year I am offering just one package that includes what I consider the ideal base photography package for every couple with the possibility for add-ons. The package includes 8 hours of continuous photography coverage, a second photographer, a professional quality album, and the digital files available for easy downloading, sharing and ordering prints. The addition of a second shooter for every wedding makes the day run much smoother, provides additional coverage and angles, more opportunity to catch those candid moments and is just so much less stressful. It’s a win-win for everyone. For the album, I looked for a long time to find a beautiful, reasonably priced, professional option that would allow me to deliver a final product that I know my clients will love. One of my favourite parts of being a photographer is storytelling through imagery and the album allows me to do that and ensures my couples will have something they will be proud to show off. And finally I include high resolution digital images in an awesome online gallery that can be easily viewed, shared, and downloaded on all your devices, with the option to purchase affordable high quality lab prints. I want the act of enjoying your wedding photos to be as simple and accessible as possible.

Anyway, a year in review post would not be complete without the wedding highlights of 2013. Enjoy!

And Happy New Year!
