The Fraser River Lodge is the perfect venue for an authentic British Columbian wedding. The rustic riverfront lodge hosts one of the best views and ceremony backdrops in the Fraser Valley: snow-capped, tree-covered Mount Cheam and roaming bison in the surrounding fields. Sharon & Andrew had a beautiful outdoor wedding on the deck of the lodge. They lucked out with the weather, it has been an especially rainy spring so far, but they got a beautiful sunny warm day. So we’re not going to complain that it’s too warm, right Andrew?

Andrew and I go back to my days in the military. We actually went through all our basic training in the reserves together. He’s still in with a tour in Afghanistan under his belt. It seems like a lifetime ago for me but funny enough I (still!) have dreams of being in the field. I know, it’s hard to imagine I was ever in the army ;) It was such a pleasure catching up with Andrew and meeting his bride-to-be Sharon at several meetings before the wedding. Despite a few jokes along the way (ie. during his vows!), it is clear how much Andrew loves Sharon and she loves him. It was so sweet to see this other side of him.

It was such a pleasure to be a part of this wedding. Although I usually feel like a close friend of the couple by the end of a wedding it was especially enjoyable to feel like a guest and not just another vendor.

I love the elegant vintage styled bridal rooms which are such a pleasure to photograph the getting ready details in.  For the guys, they have a billiards room to so the groom can blow off some pre-ceremony jitters with a couple rounds of pool.

On an unrelated note: Upon arrival at the lodge I just had to take a peek into the reception. A couple of years ago the staff at the lodge contacted me to ask if they could use create a canvas print of one of my photos from a previous wedding. Of course, I said yes and there it was: a small herd of running Bison and their calf. I just love seeing my work on both clients and venue’s walls!
